Southwark User Council
The Southwark User Council (generously funded by Southwark CCG) is a group of service users who visit mental health wards in Southwark twice a month to attend community meetings and speak to service users about their experiences of being on the wards. Council members write up (anonymised) notes of the meetings and then attend monthly meetings with Lambeth and Southwark Mind to feed back their notes. Minutes of these meetings are then shared with SLaM and Southwark CCG to make improvements to these services..
Council reps are very well respected by patients and NHS staff and dedicate their work to making real and meaningful changes for patients. Along with gathering feedback, reps add an important function to help signpost service users to sources of support after they leave hospital, helping patients make the move to the best services upon discharge.
