L&S Mind Launches Psychotherapy For All
Lambeth and Southwark Mind are proud to announce the launch of a new, free psychotherapy clinic based at its Brixton Road premises.
‘Psychotherapy For All’ will offer free talking therapy to adults in South East London who are experiencing moderate to acute mental health difficulties, including psychosis, for a period of up to one year.
The project is being funded in full by the Big Lottery’s Reaching Communities Fund.
Dr Ajay Khandelwal (CEO and Clinical Director of L&S Mind) set up a pilot version of ‘Psychotherapy For All’ in 2015, in collaboration with psychoanalyst Dorothée Bonnigal-Katz, Iain Snell from the Guild of Psychotherapists and Joan Kennedy of Lambeth and Southwark Mind’s Information Service. Bonnigal-Katz’s ‘Psychosis Therapy Project’ was the first of its kind in the inner city to offer long-term specialist talking therapy to adults experiencing psychosis.
Until now, the service has been able to support only a relatively small number of people. It has remained one of the very few providers of free, long-term talking therapy in London, where access to talking therapies is limited in time and scope as statutory services struggle to cope with high demand and waning resources.
Lambeth and Southwark Mind look forward to expanding this project over the next five years to accommodate up to 350 people who may otherwise have been unable to access talking therapy, despite experiencing extreme psychological difficulties and life circumstances.
We are delighted to have the opportunity to expand our psychotherapy service. The demand for a service like ours has never been greater in Lambeth and Southwark, particularly for the longer-term input we are now able to offer our clients.
– Anna Minton, Chair of Board
