Vietnamese Mental Health Services
Overview
The VMHS is a registered charity, serving the mental health needs of people from Vietnam in the UK, services provided are:
- Working in partnership with mainstream health/social care to provide treatment, care and support to Vietnamese users and their families
- Outreach and counselling services
- Drop-in day centres
- Support for carers and children of mentally ill parents
- Supported accommodation for Vietnamese single man users
- Supporting Vietnamese community organisations outside London to develop local mental health services
- Training workers and interpreters on medical and psychiatry terminology
- Training/education about mental health issues; health/social care systems to people from Vietnam
- Training/information about Vietnamese culture and beliefs in mental health to health/social care professionals
- Publishing booklets/leaflets in Vietnamese and Chinese on health/mental health issues, and bimonthly Health Newsletter.
Offers information, advice and emotional support, including information on housing and benefits, outreach to visit people at home, informal counselling, drop-in day centre, training about mental health and advocacy for court and mental health tribunals. Also offer support for carers and children of people with mental health needs.
Drop-in day centres are provided in 3 different places in London and offer an informal therapeutic climate where service users/carers can socialise and provide mutual support.
Staff members are at hand to provide information, support and informal counselling. Staff and service users/carers jointly plan and organise activities such as English classes, craftwork teaching, leisure activities and outings.
All centres open from 11am to 3pm, provide hot lunches and refreshments; Vietnamese/Chinese magazines, newspaper and video music. Charge £2.00 per session.

Costs:
£2 per session at the Drop-Ins.
