Thames Reach
Overview
Thames Reach helps homeless and vulnerable people to live in decent homes, build supportive relationships and lead fulfilling lives. In this way, they hope to achieve their vision of ending street homelessness.
They support people with experience of homelessness as well as vulnerable or isolated men and women who may be in danger of becoming homeless. They specialise in helping people with complex and multiple needs, including mental health issues and drug and alcohol problems.
Thames Reach works on the streets directly with rough sleepers and supports homeless, vulnerable and isolated men and women through a range of services, activities and accommodation projects. Referrals can be made through London Street Rescue.
They provide assistance to people who are:
- Currently sleeping rough on the streets.
- Living in temporary or insecure accommodation.
- Struggling to keep the tenancy on their flat.
- Isolated from support networks, family and friends.
- Living with a drug or alcohol addiction.
- Coping with poor mental health or behavioural problems.
- Trying to find work.
Southwark
Services in Southwark are the Bermondsey Project – mental health supported housing, and the Employment Academy.
The Employment Academy is helping unemployed and economically disadvantaged people find employment in the capital. A key community resource, it is also home to the Brewbird cafe, which is open to the public. The building currently has 1,100 square feet of multi-purpose office/workshop space available to hire.
The Information, Advice and Guidance service helps people from across London into work, training and education. Moving In Moving On (MIMO) is Thames Reach’s painting and decorating course for long-term unemployed, homeless and vulnerable men and women. The Travel volunteering scheme helps homeless and vulnerable people to build their self-confidence, develop new skills and make their way back into the workforce.

Lambeth
Services in Lambeth include three hostels and Lambeth High Street – mental health supported housing.
The Lambeth Safer Streets Team (SST) works with rough sleepers and people involved in street activity such as begging, street drinking and street based drug use. Their role is to support people into accommodation and support services and away from street based lifestyles. They operate a street outreach service, 7 days a week, at various times, across the whole borough. They provide assessment, advice and referrals to services such as primary healthcare, substance misuse services, counselling, housing and benefits.

Lambeth IPSA. A new alliance of organisations has come together in Lambeth to transform the lives of people with serious long-term mental health issues. The Lambeth Integrated Personalised Support Alliance (IPSA) will offer people who currently go into long-term, expensive hospital rehabilitation wards or registered care homes the chance to live more independently in their own flat in the community. IPSA offers personalised care and support to improve people’s lives, offering an early intervention before they get into repeated crisis and require hospital treatment.
The alliance is made up of five partners – the charities Thames Reach and Certitude, South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM), Lambeth Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Lambeth Council.
