Stalking Helpline

Overview

Mission: The mission is to reduce the risk of violence and aggression through campaigning, education and support.
Vision: The vision is a society in which people are safer – and feel safer – from violence and aggression; they want people to be able to live life to the full.
The Suzy Lamplugh Trust run the National Stalking Helpline.  The National Stalking Helpline offers information and guidance to anybody in the UK who is currently or has previously been affected by harassment or stalking through a freephone number and email facility.  They work with people at increased risk of violence and aggression.  The website has information about how to keep yourself safe.
Staying Safe With Other People is a peer training programme aimed at adults with learning disabilities, who can often be vulnerable to other people taking advantage of them. They are working with adults with learning disabilities and the professionals who work directly with this group to develop a brand new personal safety training programme which is accessible and appropriate.
They have worked in several counties to support victims of stalking – or those at heightened risk of being stalked, such as victims of domestic violence – to stay safe. This has included delivering stalking awareness and personal safety workshops in refuges, distributing safety packs to victims of stalking, and training frontline professionals so that they are able to respond more effectively to victims of stalking who approach them.

They deliver community projects

For example, the PLAN Project is a peer education programme for young people aged between 14 and 22. They are training clusters of young people in communities across the country on a range of personal safety issues including how they can go out into their school, college or community to help other young people to stay safe.
The National Stalking Helpline has a small team of highly trained staff and volunteers who provide – by phone and email – information and guidance on the law, how to report stalking, gathering evidence, staying safe and reducing the risk.
The Helpline aims to help you by giving you information and guidance on:
•The law in relation to stalking and harassment in the United Kingdom
•Reporting stalking or harassment
•Effective gathering of evidence
•Ensuring your personal safety and that of your friends and family
•Practical steps to reduce the risk.
The Helpline helps when:
•You or someone you know is being made to feel harassed or intimidated by the behaviour of another person
•If you are unsure what can be done about this person’s behaviour?
•If you feel that you, your friend or a family member are at risk of emotional or physical harm.
