Overview

The Family Tracing Service restores and sustains family relationships by locating relatives who have lost contact with each other, either recently or in the past.

They provide a service that is professional, compassionate and non-judgemental, with support throughout the searching process. Their dedicated team of caseworkers, who work on behalf of the clients, handle more than 2,000 new enquiries each year, with searches taking from as little as a few days to two years.
Sadly they cannot guarantee success in every search they undertake, although every effort will be made to trace the person sought. Of applications accepted the success rate is 88%, averaging at more than eight people being reunited every single working day.

They can help to trace:

Known, named relatives over the age of 18, subject to the eligibility criteria – prisoners about to be released may seek help to trace their family.
Long lost relatives – this is an area in which The Salvation Army specialises.
Emigrant families – contact may have been lost with family members who have emigrated.
Next-of-kin – hospitals may sometimes need to contact the next-of-kin of a patient who is seriously ill.

An application form will be sent to you, to be completed with details of the person sought. Once returned to this office, full consideration will be given to your request. Please include the registration fee when submitting your completed application form. If for any reason we are unable to commence a search, your fee will not be processed.
You need to provide the full name, date of birth and last known address of the person sought.
They do not undertake enquiries to locate parents in situations where a birth occurred outside marriage, or where there has been an adoption.
