Centre for Mental Health
Overview
Centre for Mental Health seeks a fairer chance in life for people facing or living with mental ill-health. We find ways of improving people’s life chances and breaking down barriers by putting high-quality research into policy and practice.
Some topics that they cover:
- Changing Policy: They have been changing and influencing mental health policy for 30 years and are still doing so.
- Children & Young People: They know that mental health problems around pregnancy and in childhood make people’s lives harder and cost a great deal of money.
- Criminal Justice: The majority of prisoners have mental health problems, often two or more at the same time.
- Economics: Economic analysis is often at the heart of our work, demonstrating the human and financial costs of mental health problems.
- Employment & Individual Placement & Support (IPS): The majority of people with mental health problems want to work but often the support they need is not available.
- Physical & Mental Health: Physical health problems and long-term conditions make mental health problems worse, and vice versa.
- Veterans: Leaving the military can be hard for former soldiers and their families, particularly for those who develop mental health problems. We’re finding ways to fix this, working to discover the best ways to support former Armed Forces personnel.
