Refugee Council

The RC works with refugees and people seeking asylum in the UK.  They offer practical support and advice throughout their journey in the UK.  They have been helping refugees for more than 60 years and have a thorough understanding of the difficulties facing people arriving in the UK, having fled war, rape, torture and with unimaginable stories to tell.  Many refugees have lost everything and their lives will never return to normal.  The RC offers a helping hand to support and empower them to rebuild their lives.

The Refugee Council provides:

  • Destitution support for asylum seekers
  • Helps refugees find housing and jobs
  • Works with children
  • Provides mental health assessment, referral and casework for refugees and asylum seekers
  • Offers a befriending scheme to help access health and social care services.

From 1st April 2014 the Refugee Council will no longer offer free advice and help to people applying for asylum support.  The Home Office has appointed ‘Migrant Help’ to do this.
