Raw Sounds
Overview
Raw Sounds is a programme of music workshops for people with mental health needs, open to young people and adults between the ages of 16-65 accessing mental health services.
Their approach seeks to connect with participants in a humanistic way, where the focus is on recognising people as unique, diverse and resilient individuals, and teach new creative skills through collaboration, peer leadership and exchange.
To attend sessions you must be referred via mental health services. Ask your Care Coordinator or Occupational Therapist to download the form on the website and email it to [email protected]
There are separate sessions for Adults over 30 and Young People under 30.
Mondays. Weekly sessions teaching guitar, bass, keyboard and drums. Each session focuses on a different genre of music, teaching to play in that style. Sessions aim to provide skills, positive agency, support, and space for creative self-expression.
Thursday afternoons. Play musical instruments alongside musicians at all levels as part of the Raw Sounds Collective. Creative original music using Logic Pro with Apple Mac systems and record vocals in a professional music studio. Develop song writing skills, structure and compose lyrics to create songs and finished to a high standard. Learn to DJ and record mixes using CDJs and Serato Scratch Live. Develop your performance skills with the opportunity to perform live at local venues.
