National Centre for Domestic Violence
Overview
NCDV was established to help survivors of domestic violence and abuse obtain protection against an abuser, as well as offer services to the police, probation service, domestic abuse agency workers, the legal profession and the judiciary.
They specialise in providing free, fast and effective legal support to survivors of domestic violence and abuse, usually by helping individuals obtain injunctions from their local county court. This free service is provided to everybody, regardless of their financial circumstances, sexual orientation, race, gender, age, political or religious belief or otherwise.
In brief, the services include:
- Free Legal Injunction service to everybody
- Injunctions usually within 24 hours
- The large framework of Legal Aid family solicitors throughout the country
- Emergency Prohibitive Steps Orders
- Emergency Non-Molestation and Occupation Orders
- Direct links with Local Authorities, health centres, refuges, Women’s Aid Centres and other services
- See our data privacy policy at ncdv.org.uk/data-privacy-policy.
Operates phone lines providing free confidential legal advice for victims of domestic violence.
Injunctions prohibit a violent or abusive partner, or ex-partner, from using or threatening violence, from pestering, intimidating or harassing.
Breaching an injunction is a criminal offence. To obtain an injunction, a statement from the victim is needed. If appropriate, the Centre will then arrange for a court date.
