Nafsiyat Intercultural Therapy Centre
Overview
Nafsiyat offers short-term intercultural therapy to people from diverse backgrounds who live in Islington, Enfield, Camden and Haringey. People coming from other boroughs must obtain funding from their local NHS trust or fund themselves. Self-referral and agency referrals in writing only, an online referral form is available.
They provide therapy in 22 languages. Individual and group counselling and therapy for people from black and minority ethnic and cultural communities, taking account of the cultural and racial component of mental distress. Family therapy and therapy for adolescents are also provided. Therapy is offered in a variety of languages – phone to check what is available.
They help people in difficult circumstances recover and move forward with their lives. They recognise that cost is a significant barrier to accessing therapy so they offer subsidised therapy to individuals, couples and groups.
They work to ease mental distress and help clients adjust to life in their communities. They work with people experiencing:
- psychiatric problems
- emotional strain
- domestic violence
- relationship issues
- childhood sexual abuse
- sexual problems
- cultural issues
- language-specific issues.
They also provide training for professionals.
