Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman


This is the final stage for complaints about councils, all adult social care providers (including care homes and home care agencies) and some other organisations providing local public services. They are a free service. They investigate complaints in a fair and independent way and do not take sides.  A complaint form can be completed on-line or you can phone.

They can investigate complaints about health and social care services and any services provided by local government, including council services (e.g. housing, planning, education, social care), fire authorities, police authorities, education appeal committees and the environment agency (land drainage and flood defence only).

The Ombudsman will investigate only after a complaint has been made to the relevant authority and the authority has had a chance to answer. If you are not satisfied with that answer the next step is to approach the Ombudsman.

This is an independent, impartial and free service.  If you provide your email the LGO will generally contact you by email.
