Lambeth Stop Smoking Service

Overview

When trying to quit you are 4 times more likely to succeed with treatment which combines behavioural support and medication than if you ‘go it alone’.  Thankfully there is lots of support available for Lambeth smokers who want to quit.

Londoners can access the London Stop Smoking Portal or call the Stop Smoking London helpline on 0300 123 0144 for free support and advice.

The phone service provides a convenient way to access good quality specialist advice on how to stop smoking. Lines are open Monday to Friday 9am to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday 11am to 4pm.

The free stop smoking service at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital aims to help people to give up smoking. They provide advice, support and encouragement to help you stop smoking for good.

What do we offer?

  • trained advisers to help you decide when’s the best time to stop and how to succeed
  • regular sessions in the first few weeks after stopping to encourage you to keep going
  • a choice of medications to suit your level of smoking and preference, available free or on prescription
  • carbon monoxide tests to keep you motivated by showing reduced carbon monoxide levels in your blood after quitting.

Hospital stop smoking service

Giving up smoking before any planned hospital treatment is the most effective thing you can do to speed up your recovery, even stopping smoking once you have been admitted can shorten your hospital stay.

At Guy’s and St Thomas’ there is a team of stop smoking advisers working with inpatients, outpatients and staff to provide excellent evidence-based support to smokers to help them quit.  They offer free, confidential advice and support through their weekly clinics and inpatient service. Stop smoking medications can be arranged while you are in hospital helping you avoid the long walk outside to find a smoking area.  The advisers work closely with community services as well and can refer you to your nearest advisor once you are ready for discharge.  This free stop smoking service aims to help people to give up smoking. They provide advice, support and encouragement to help you stop smoking for good. Based at Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospital, there are a number of clinics throughout the borough where this service is provided.
