Hibiscus Initiatives

Overview

The Female Prisoners Welfare Project (FPWP) is a charity which provides support for females of all ethnic origins and nationalities within the UK criminal justice system. Hibiscus is a branch of the FPWP aimed at the special needs of foreign national women imprisoned in the UK and ensuring that they understand the British Criminal Justice system and their rights within it. Their work falls into four broad areas: prisons, community, international resettlement and human trafficking.

They provide:

  • welfare, advice, advocacy, volunteering and mentoring in prisons
  • reintegration assistance and practical and emotional support for people in detention and those released from Immigration Removal Centres
  • community resettlement support for ex-offenders
  • identification of potential victims of trafficking and awareness-raising on the risks of being trafficked to the UK.
