Contact a Family is a national charity that provides support, advice and information for families with disabled children, no matter what their condition or disability.
Information, support and advice
They offer information and advice to parent carers of disabled children from 6 to 19 years old and to professionals who work with them. They provide a drop-in and phone service with advice on benefits, grants and any other issues. They also support families to access children’s centres in their area which offer a range of services for under-fives. These include family support services, childcare, health services and employment advice.
Support groups
There are opportunities to meet up with other parents in the borough for support and to share information.
Events. They run a number of events including:
- workshops on a variety of topics such as coping with a new diagnosis, stress management and toilet training
- family events (subject to funding)
