Care Quality Commission – Mental Health Act


Exists to make sure the Mental Health Act is properly used and to look after the rights and concerns of patients detained under it, also for people subject to guardianship or placed on a Community Treatment Order (CTO).

If you have a complaint about the treatment you have received under the Act or the way the Act has been applied, the Care Quality Commission will provide you with advice and assistance. Commissioners can make arrangements for a second opinion if you do not agree with your treatment.

As well as the Mental Health Act, the Care Quality Commission has responsibilities for regulating all health and adult social care services in England.
