BeeUrban

Overview

Bee Urban is a social enterprise that aims to work with communities to improve the environment for the benefit of us all. They focus on responsible urban beekeeping, horticulture and community growing.

It’s not just about bees, people are vital to Bee Urban. Community engagement and volunteering is also very important, providing opportunities to contribute to the locality, be creative and reduce social isolation.

They work with everyone, whatever the age, level of experience or need. They are skilled in working with vulnerable adults, including those with mental health needs and learning difficulties. Everyone is welcome.

You can read more about their projects and volunteering opportunities here.

Their main site is The Hive just behind the cafe and in front of St Agnes church in Kennington Park and they do a significant amount of work from Camberwell Subterranea. Both are sites that were derelict and abused before Bee Urban turned them into thriving community spaces, working with local volunteers to clear waste and old structures and replace them with environmentally friendly, horticulturally rich buildings and growing spaces – the process being as important as the finished product.

They have held a variety of workshops on-site, workshops which wouldn’t necessarily lend themselves to one another; Gardening, Bicycle Repair, Beekeeping, Painting, Carpentry, Plumbing and Electrical workshop/sessions, all of which contributed to the development of the site.

Currently, Camberwell Subterranea is home to a series of busy and successful bicycle recycling and bike-fix workshops. During the winter the session will be run on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the winter months.

Next drop-in sessions are 12:30pm-3:30pm every saturday.
