Overview
The Curly Hair Project (CHP) is a social enterprise which supports people on the autistic spectrum and the people around them. They say their work is very inclusive – it’s all about developing empathy and understanding for the amazing diversity of people in the world.
The CHP is an award-winning social enterprise founded by autistic author and entrepreneur Alis Rowe. CHP resources are used by individuals, families and professionals worldwide. Endorsed by the world’s leading psychologist in autism, Professor Tony Attwood and featured on BBC Radio 4. All the work is based on personal, real life examples and experiences.
Lots of people are quite unaware of how autism presents in women. There are lots of women out there struggling and they perhaps don’t know why. The Curly Hair Project is not just for girls, they have also helped thousands of Spiky Haired Boys too!
Their resources (see website) are used by psychiatrists, GPs, psychologists, counsellors and teaching professionals. They also provide training workshops and the training material has been written by autistic entrepreneur Alis Rowe and is delivered by an experienced Trainer. They use animated videos and comic strips to engage the audience. Some of the training incorporates brief, very structured discussion and activities which you do not have to participate in.
