ACAS
Overview
ACAS (Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service) provides free and impartial information and advice to employers and employees on all aspects of workplace relations and employment law. They support good relationships between employers and employees which underpin business success. But when things go wrong they help by providing conciliation to resolve workplace problems.
Acas are often contacted to provide advice and support in the following areas:
- National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage
- Pay deductions
- Holidays
- Redundancy
- Working hours
- Discipline
- Terminating employment – notice periods and pay
- Zero hours contracts
- Equality and discrimination
- Transfer of undertakings (TUPE)
On the website, you can view the full A-Z of employment advice, download free Acas guidance Publications or access our Tools, Templates and Resources.
Please note: ACAS do not generally see people face to face. All employment issues are usually dealt with on the telephone or by email (for training enquiries). There are, however, exceptions eg someone is severely disabled/cannot communicate well via telephone. ACAS will make arrangements for the person to be seen at one of their venues. If you’re D/deaf, hearing impaired or have a speech impediment, you can also contact them through Relay UK (this used to be called the ‘text relay’ service): 18001 0300 123 1100.
